Our Mission: The Mission of the Van Wert Solid Waste Management
District is to provide waste reduction services and opportunities in a
manner which exceeds the expectations of its customers and the
communities it serves.
RECYCLERS GUIDE
Recycling collection is
performed in two separate streams. Keeping the two streams separated
from each other will help to insure your recyclables get recycled.
Recycling bins that contain randomly mixed Wood Fiber (paper) and
Commingle (containers) materials will not be collected.
THE WOOD FIBER (PAPER) STREAM
CARDBOARD: Corrugated sheets and boxes (flattened), cereal boxes
(packaging), file folders, poster board, brown paper bags, etc.. Please
cut down large boxes and remove plastic windows.
GLOSSY PAPER: Material that has a glossy sheen including
magazines, catalogs, and flyers.
MIXED OFFICE PAPER: Office and school paper copy including copy,
construction, envelopes, computer, tablets, phonebooks, workbooks with
wire or plastic binding removed, and junk mail.
NEWSPAPER: Newspaper and all associated items including
advertisements and flyers. Plastic bags or rubber bands must be removed.
BOOKS: Hardcover or paperback books placed in a paper bag for easy
separation. Books are used
in the free book exchange program. The District maintains a library
consisting of thousands of books available free at the recycling center.
THE COMMINGLE STREAM
CANS: Aluminum or bimetal cans including empty aerosol cans.
Containers must be rinsed free of food waste or other contaminants.
Labels do not need to be removed. Small miscellaneous melt scrap items
also accepted.
PLASTICS: All plastic containers numbers 1 through 7 (No
Styrofoam), shopping bags (multiple plastic bags must be placed inside
one bag.) Labels and lids do not need to be removed.
GLASS: Clean food or beverage container glass. No bulbs,
ornamental, plate/window, Pyrex or cookware glass. All containers must
be rinsed free of food waste or other contaminants. Labels and lids do
not need removed.
ALUMINUM FOIL: Aluminum foil and pans rinsed free of food waste
or other contaminants.
SPECIAL ITEMS - Recycling Center Only
APPLIANCES:
Large and small includes: air
conditioners, refrigerators, freezers, furnaces, dish washers, water
heaters, ranges, washers, dryers, toasters, mixers, sweepers, fans,
etc. There is a $15.00 per-unit-processing fee for Freon appliances
only.
ELECTRONIC WASTE:
Everything electronic except televisions! Computers and accessories,
stereo equipment, DVD & video players, copiers, etc. Commercial
charge: $0.15 per pound for monitors, power packs and copiers
OTHER PLASTICS:
Vinyl siding, plastic film and shrink rap, call for unlisted plastics.
USED OIL:
Used motor oil or transmission fluid free of gasoline, solvents or other
contaminants
USED TIRES:
$3.00 per passenger tire off the rim. Call for larger tire prices
CAR/TRUCK/MOTORCYCLE BATTERIES:
wet cell only
SORRY, WE CANNOT ACCEPT: Adhesive materials (decals, tape);
tissue paper; paper towels; oil/food contaminated paper materials;
film/photographs; paper containers with attached metal or plastic ends
or spouts; cardboard juice or milk containers; pet food bags; carbon paper;
unidentifiable plastic or items with food or
other contaminants. Please keep your recycling clean.
CURBSIDE RECYCLING: Bins must be out by 7:30 a.m.. Please avoid
extreme weather set out. Paper materials placed in plastic bags will not be
collected. Other containers and paper bags can be used in conjunction
with your recycling bin when needed. Wood fiber and commingle materials
cannot be mixed together. Messes add significant cost to your
recycling program. Place identification/address on your bin.
The first two recycling bins are available free. Replacement bins are $6.00 each.
Recycling Center Hours: Mon, Wed, Fri 9:00 – 5:00.
First and second Saturday
8:00-Noon.
Holiday schedules changes available 24 hours-per-day by calling
